Knight Arcus Thornstride is the official ranger of Archrest, surveying and scouting the surrounding forest for danger of all kinds while carefully documenting his discoveries. Passionate about his work, he was devastated when he was wrongfully exiled from the city, becoming very self-isolated. He handled it better than most, however, as his love for the wilderness and his animal companions guided him to continue protecting the city's outskirts entirely on his own. His approach to his work is very scientific, as he aims to catalog as many creatures as possible to better understand their behaviors and motivations, helping him predict their movements or effectively handle them when they become a threat.He has a pet "rabbit", Tulip, and rides an anxious horse named Mabel that oftentimes reflects his own anxious nature.
Appearance
Thornstride wears leather armor and a sage green tunic with gold metallic accents. His clothing is decorated with leaf and vine designs and gold clasps. His cloak is a misty green with blue and gray designs, helping him disappear into the foggy foliage around Achrest when spying on a target.
He wears archery gloves and is never seen without his gilded longbow, always gleaming with an otherworldly shine. He wears his long hair in braids with gold beads at the ends.
Personality
Thornstride is very patient, accustomed to following creatures throughout the forest alone for days at a time. His unending patience sometimes causes him to take a rather long time to diffuse threats, as he prefers to "talk" things through rather than use force. He sometimes finds himself enraptured by the beauty of nature's workings, getting lost in thought and excited to share his knowledge with others, when given the opportunity.
As enthusiastic and friendly as he is in-person, it does not take long to notice his excessive worry. He usually assumes the worst possible outcome when something is beyond his control, and is far less trusting of other people than of the creatures he catalogues. Even around those he does trust, he often anxiously rambles or interrupts himself mid-conversation.
History
Thornstride rarely speaks of his past, as he tries to keep himself out of the center of attention as much as possible. Although, it is suggested that he knew fellow knight Saelix before either of them joined the court of Archrest. His pet "rabbit" is very clearly a supernatural creature, perhaps of demonic or fae origins, and it seems he has been fascinated with such creatures for quite some time.
